HOSTED BY THE KRANTZ/MARSHALL FAMILY
WAGR Weekend 2010 was the second time our families gathered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, a suburb of Washington,DC. With ongoing research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, the location was perfect for several families who planned to participate in the research studies and attend the weekend activities.
Dr Joan Han and members of the NIH WAGR Syndrome/11p deletion study team provided an overview of their research as well as some specific findings and trends. Dr Zein, an NIH ophthalmologist involved with the WAGR studies discussed aniridia and glaucoma-related issues in individuals with WAGR Syndrome. IWSA health consultant, board member, and WAGR mom Kelly Trout, presented aninformative and moving video presentation illustrating the history of the International WAGR Syndrome Association and its families. Both Drs Han and Zein were later available to meet with individual families
to address their specific concerns.
After our Saturday morning family meeting and a catered lunch, families enjoyed the outdoor swimming pools and waterslides, played puttputt golf, played in the gym, and enjoyed visiting with each other.
