For the first time ever, Give Rare, an organized fundraising event for rare disease organizations came blazing across the world shortly after Rare Disease Day 2015. On March 3rd, after several weeks of build up and preparation, the IWSA participated in this incredible event. In the end, after 24 hours of on-line fundraising, the IWSA finished an outstanding 8th out of 60 SMALL non-profit rare disease organizations with a wonderful $3600 plus in donations.
We want to thank all of the families, individuals and organizations who contributed toward this event. The best way to describe how amazing this was is to emphasize that $3600 was about 1/3 of the operating budget for the IWSA in 2014! Click here to view the IWSA Income Statement
The IWSA’s Give Rare website is still open, and can be used to continue to make donations to the IWSA. This is a great resource if you would like to fundraise for the IWSA from a country outside of the United States, if you have a company that would provide matching funds, or if you’re planning a social media blitz as part of your fundraiser. However, we still encourage people to continue to use our Donation page on our website in order to avoid administrative fees which cut into our ability to use funds to directly benefit our WAGR families.
To all of you who participated in Give Rare, THANK YOU ALL for contributing to this inaugural effort in fundraising on this global scale. Whether you set up a family page, promoted the pages via Facebook and Twitter, or donated toward the cause, you made this event what it was: A HUGE WIN FOR THE IWSA. We are already counting down to Give Rare Day 2016 on March 1st.
