Jessica Ann Lorman-White was born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA. She graduated from Fremont High School, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Global Studies and Business Economics from UC Santa Barbara, and completed a Master's degree in International Studies at George Washington University iin Washington DC. In April 2017 she was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a very rare kidney cancer in adults. She had just celebrated her 30th birthday. Even with an incredibly positive outlook over more than two years of treatment battling this cancer, Jessica sadly passed away at her home in Washington DC on October 29, 2019 with husband John at her side. Jessica was incredible and so giving in many ways with family and her many friends. Even her career choice in the field of International Development was based on her desire to help others and make the world in some way better. She has been described as strong, positive, radiant, loving, and an extraordinarily caring young woman. She will always be remembered for the very special person she was and the gifts she gave all of us to have known her.
Jessica donated her body to science to help to support Wilms tumor research in hopes of finding new treatment protocols and a cure for this rare cancer. She wanted to help others overcome the disease and prevent other families from the heart-breaking sadness and loss her family and friends endure.
In her memory, the annual “Jessica Lorman White Memory Walk” takes place in October. We encourage everyone to go out for a walk/run/hike and enjoy the outdoors...something Jessica loved to do.
In Jessica's memory and honor, and to carry forward her wishes, please consider making a donation to the International WAGR Syndrome Association. IWSA's mission includes support to the international medical, research, and family communities with the goal of improving the lives of individuals with this syndrome. About 50% of individuals born with WAGR syndrome develop the same rare cancer that Jessica was diagnosed with. Research supported and funded by the IWSA is underway to better understand Wilms tumor, why it occurs and, hopefully one day, how to prevent and/or cure it.
