This is my little sister Cody, her disability (WAGR syndrome) makes her different from others. Quite often I see people stare and whisper about her, even going so far as to avoid and run from her.
However all I can see is the absolute love for everything. She inspires me to be a better person because she doesn’t know how to be a bad person. She doesn’t know how to be racist or rude to anyone. If Cody were to see someone not as nicely dressed or sketchy looking instead of avoiding or ignoring them she would try to play with them. She only knows how to be kind, and yes she has her bad days where it’s too much for her to handle so she yells and screams, but nothing warms my heart more than someone who approaches her and talks to her like she’s a human rather than looking down at her like dirt.
Mainly this post is about me thanking those like the lady in big W who saw Cody getting upset and started talking to her about her toy, or the kids at the pool last month who smiled and included her in their games. Thank you to my partner Nick for instead of trying to avoid visits, will come over and play with her or talk to her on the phone using her favourite characters voice to soothe her phone anxiety. Thank you to my stepfather Max for getting grumpy that I spoil her with toys because he wants to, for never treating her like a disobedient dog and rather an anxious little girl who idolizes her friends and family.
I think everyone could use a Cody in their life to inspire them to be just as perfect as her.
