Maelynn is 7 years old. She is a very social and sweet girl, loved by everyone who knows her. She smiles all the time and often greets everybody while walking down the street. Maelynn is always friendly to other people and she likes to cuddle with anyone, known or unknown. :)
At school she is doing great, beyond expectations. She started in first grade this year. She already can read small words! We are so incredibly proud of her perseverance! Maelynn has a mind of her own and likes to be in charge when she plays with other children. Being in control provides a piece of security to her. We are still practicing a lot with cycling because Maelynn has some minor balance issues.
Fortunately, all kidney exams so far have been good, but the 3 monthly exams remain exciting for us. Maelynn has a brother Tim (16) and a sister Sterre (13). They often help us babysit and take her to the playground. We as parents are very happy with this. Tim is also visually impaired and Maelynn and Tim together go to the same school for visually impaired children.
Everything Maelynn learns takes a little longer but in the end she succeeds! As parents we are very happy with this sweet girl in our lives. Of course we were in shock at the diagnosis, but we sometimes think if we had known 7 years ago what we know now, we would have enjoyed her much more when she was so little.
